When WSB signed on the air in 1922, it enlisted listeners to join a listeners' club where members were known as WSB Radio Owls - as most listened at night to a signal that could be picked up throughout the United States. Evidence of this can be seen in a postcard obtained by this website sent by WSB to a listener in Madison WI who had written to WSB saying he had heard the station where he lived. The station responded to such letters and postcards by sending out this postcard with the picture of General Manager Lambdin Kay on the front and the schedule of WSB shows on the back.
Notice that the postcard was simply sent to a Mr. J. Braith in Madison WI with a one penny stamp. No street address - just a name and a city -- and it was delivered!!!
Later on the station would send membership cards and letters to listeners. A stamp was also issued in 1927 - as radio listeners would often put radio station stamps into "DX" books - a popular hobby for radio enthusiasts in the early days of radio.
